Rotherham child abuse scandal

1,400 children exploited, report finds

The local authorities in South Yorkshire have been strongly criticised, in a report realised by Professor Alexi Jay, for failing to prevent the sexual exploitation of in the region of 1,400 children in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

The report details how sexually abused children were not protected by the Police and Councils workers who failed to treat the abuse as a crime.

The report detailed serious mistakes in the social sector with Karen Froggatt from Victim Support stating “The details in the report were truly horrific and it’s obvious some serious mistakes were made in Rotherham”.

As a consequence there will be many children, teenagers, young adults and families effected psychologically and physically by their ordeal, all of whom may have a potential  personal injury claims against the Council, the Police or the perpetrators of the abuse as well as a potential Criminal Injuries Compensation Claim.
